چکیده

Nerve agents belong to highly toxic organophosphorus compounds misused as chemical warfare agents for military as well as terroristic purposes. Basic mechanism of action of nerve agents is based on acetylcholinesterase (AChE, EC 3.1.1.7) inhibition and subsequent accumulation of neuromediator acetylcholine at the cholinergic synapses, either peripheral or central leading to cholinergic hyperstimulation and development of symptoms of poisoning, followed by metabolic dysbalance and death without effective prophylaxis/treatment. The antidotal treatment of acute poisonings with nerve agents still represents a serious problem and, therefore, we are searching how to satisfactorily protect people against acute toxicity of nerve agents. There are two approaches how to improve the medical protection against nerve agents: • to increase the resistance of nerve agent-exposed organism and the efficacy of post-exposure antidotal treatment by pharmacological prophylaxis • the development of new, more effective antidotes, expecially AChE reactivators, to achieve the satisfactorily effective antidotal treatment of acute poisonings with nerve agents. Prophylaxis of Nerve Agent Exposure

Therapeutic and neuroprotective efficacy of pharmacological pretreatment and antidotal treatment of acute tabun or soman poisoning with the emphasis on pretreatment drug PANPAL.

A good knowledge of the basic mechanisms of acute toxicity of organophosphorus compounds has lead to the development of specific antidotes able to counteract their acute toxic effects. Unfortunately, there are still some highly toxic organophosphorus compounds, called nerve agents, that are resistant to standard antidotal treatment. Relatively unsatisfactory antidotal treatment of acute poisoni...

Current progress in the development of therapeutic vaccines for chronic hepatitis B virus infection

Chronic hepatitis B is still a major public health issue despite the successful prophylactic vaccination attempts. Chronicity of hepatitis B virus(HBV) is mainly due to its ability to debilitate host's immune system. Therefore, major measures have been taken to stop this process and help patients with chronic hepatitis B infection recover from their illness. While satisfactory results have been...
